Mia had a spectacular weekend leading her team to a 2-1 record against North Haven, Old Saybrook, and Haddam Killingworth. These three games served as a test for the Lady Wolverines and they showed their mettle beating first place HK and losing a nail biter to North Haven before winning big at Old Saybrook. Nieves was Wallingford's leading scorer on the weekend with 20 points. She added 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 10 steals, and an astonishing 10 blocked shots. This performance is even more impressive when you consider it came in a win against HK and a 4 point loss to North Haven. For her excellent effort, Nieves is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Caroline Murphy & Maddie Smith
Every member of the team had a solid contribution across this weeks games, but perhaps no two players upped their game more than Murphy and Smith. Caroline, who had 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal drew some of the toughest match-ups on offense and defense against the opponents tallest players. Maddie scored 4 points, including a timely basket that extended the lead against HK, while adding 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Grayson Scharfstein was a force this weekend for the 8th grade Wolverines. His team played two close games splitting with Colchester and Madison and Scharfstein was making things happen on both sides of the ball. The point guard scored 29 points (including 20 vs Madison), grabbed 9 rebounds, dished 11 assists, and swiped 12 steals. For his efforts, he is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: James Frank
James Frank has been a great addition to the front court for the Wolverines adding rebounding, rim protection, and interior scoring. This weekend, the center scored 17 points, grabbed 24 boards, 6 blocked shots, and 2 steals in action. For his stellar play, James is our Week 9 Honorable Mention.
Joey "Buckets" is a team and crowd favorite in our program. The specific reason for that is that Joey takes on defensive and rebounding efforts with a smile. This weekend, he displayed strong shooting touch and shot IQ highlighted by back-to-back baskets to pull ahead in a win against North Branford. Over the weekend, Joey had 5 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. For this effort, Buckets is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: CJ Callahan
CJ is proof that scoring is only one way to impact the game. In three games this weekend, the point guard just missed a "quadruple double" with 9 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists, and 11 steals. His team sits at 11-7 and seems primed for a playoff run and Callahan is a driving force. For his well-rounded showing, CJ is our Honorable Mention for the week.
Max has been developing each week and showed aggressiveness on offense and energy on defense. His squad played only once this weekend and White was a standout. The point guard had 11 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals while committing only 2 turnovers despite being the primary ball-handler. For this outstanding effort, Max is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Ethan Johnson
Ethan impacts the game in many different ways and Sunday was no exception. The forward scored 4 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and added 5 steals in a 1-point loss to Old Saybrook. Ethan leads the Wolverines program in rebounds per game (12.4). For this effort, Ethan is our Honorable Mention.
