The Lady Wolverines completed an undefeated weekend with wins over Colchester (18-13) and Coginchaug (22-13). CiCi Rodriguez was a force in all phases of the game with 9 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and a block. Aside from her impressive stat-line, Rodriguez hit a victory sealing free throw with a minute left vs Colchester.
HONORABLE MENTION: THE TEAM
Whether it was the dynamic guard duo of Lilana Michalski (15 points) and Mia Nieves (10 points) led the way with scoring. Maddie Smith and Annie Kansler provided the hustle and defensive spark combining for 5 steals. Cadence Callahan-LaPia and Amelia Rodriguez controlled the backboards with 22 total rebounds. Makenna James and Caroline Murphy added solid passing and ball handling support to help guide the way all weekend.
Dhevan "Bubba" turned in a well-rounded effort as a scorer and playmaker for the 8th grade squad this weekend. He turned in 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals against tough competition. Coach Scharfstein lauded Kapoor's efforts as a playmaker who sacrificed his own offensive opportunities for the sake of creating shots for others.
HONORABLE MENTION: DOM MAPPA
Dom's coaches have loved his positive leadership and "can-do" attitude so far this season. Hit a trifecta of big 3-pointers to rally his team and added 3 assists in his duties to help with ball handling and breaking the press.
The 7B team was in limited action with only one game this weekend against a very tough New Britain team. Mason Mejias continued to anchor the Wolverines as a scorer and rebounder. Additionally, Mejias helped to ease the free-throw plague that has hampered the team this season hitting all of his shots from the charity stripe on Sunday.
HONORABLE MENTION: OWEN HARRIS
Harris has continued his strong play from the center position with a 7 point, 3 rebound, and 1 steal effort. In the loss to New Britain, he hit timely buckets and helped to keep things close until late in the game when NB pulled away.
"Flip" has been a swiss army knife for the 6th grade squad in this early season. He can defend guard and forward positions, help with ball handling, and is comfortable driving to the basket or hitting from deep. In this weekends two game stint, he totaled 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal with three 3-point bombs to earn POW honors.
HONORABLE MENTION: FINN GOLLARENY
Finn has been on the cusp of a breakout game for these last few weeks. He's a versatile player who brings energy and effort every minute on the floor. Finn poured in 9 points and added 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals on the weekend.
