It was a productive weekend for Callahan-LaPia who contributed in a number of ways. Over the 2 game stretch, she had 4 points, 12 rebounds, 7 steals, 1 assist, and 1 block. She also did an excellent job protecting the basketball with a team low 4 turnovers in 2 games against Ledyard and Portland. For her efforts, Cadence is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Caroline Murphy
Caroline has worked on her game in practice and the results were evident this weekend. Caroline had a strong weekend with 4 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. For her hard work and strong performance, Caroline is our Honorable Mention this week.
Jacob turned in one of his best games in a road win against Manchester. Grondzik led the scoring attack with a team high 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist. He also hit the opening 3-pointer that kicked off a memorable rally in a showdown with a dominant Bristol team. The Wolverines had the first place team on their heels early on and Grondzik's play was a highlight. For his efforts, he is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Christian Scialla & The TEAM
Christian led with a team high 9 rebounds and 3 assists against Manchester. These were season highs for him in this strong effort. For their part, his TEAM hung tough jumping all over 1st place Bristol 11-0 in a game that saw 8 players contribute points. The opening quarter showcased the teams ferocious defense and agility in breaking the press. These are our Week 8 Honorable Mentions.
Jowell Gonzalez was a sparkplug for the 7th grade squad in their 2-0 weekend. The team defeated Old Saybrook and East Hampton scoring over 120 points in the process. Gonzalez was a key playmaker who hit for 8 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 assist. For his performance, Jowell is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Owen Harris & Ryan Gostomski
Owen Harris has been a very versatile threat for the 7th grade team. Gostomski has been an incredible volume scorer. Gostomski exploded for 39 points (including 25 against Old Saybrook) and 8 rebounds while Harris scored 8, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished 2 assists, added 5 steals, and 2 blocks across two games. For these incredible contributions, this duo is our Honorable Mention for the week.
Danny Maginnis had a breakout game on Saturday and scored a team high 16 points on the weekend. He also added 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks while protecting the basketball with only 2 turnovers. For his strong performance , MaGinnis is our Week 8 Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION: Sean Reynolds
Sean Reynolds made one of the most sensational passes of the season on Sunday. The pass led to a fast break bucket in a critical moment of a close game. It was an example of the heads up basketball he provided his team in their battles with Milford, Manchester, and Hartford. Reynolds added 4 points, dished 4 assists, and added 6 rebounds on the weekend. For his play, he was our week 8 Honorable Mention.
