Sydney Repko has been a catalyst on the defensive end for the Lady Wolverines this season. On Sunday, vs an undefeated North Haven team, Repko did it all. She helped handle the ball against the press, defended with her typical intensity, and rebounded well from the guard position. In all, Sydney finished with 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot to earn our 5G Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
EMILY GRAYEB
Emily has improved in every facet of the game and become an increasingly confident guard helping to handle the ball against the press. In a game that saw strong contributions across the team, none were more important than Grayeb's. In Sunday's game, Emily had 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 assists. Her well-rounded effort earned our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Caroline is asserting herself in new ways as the season progresses. This weekend against a very tough East Hartford team was no exception. In addition to looking for her shot more actively, Murphy had 6 rebounds on Sunday and defended with increased confidence as evidenced by her 6 steals. For the commitment Caroline has made to the hardest parts of the game (defense and rebounding) she is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
CASEY BROWN & LILIANA MICHALSKI
It would be hard to overstate the boost the 6G team got from this duo on Sunday. Michalski was literally everywhere in action and Brown dominated the paint against much bigger competition. Together this tandem was stellar. Michalski had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 steals while Brown had 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 blocked shots. Together, they earned our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Cort has been emerging as a reliable scorer and has been steady as a rebounder all season. This weekend, in a loss vs North Haven and a win against Colchester, Hirsch continued his strong play. On the weekend, he tallied 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and an astounding 12 steals. His efforts were enough to earn him our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
COLE GERME
Cole Germe gives the 6th grade Wolverines great depth at the guard spot. He is comfortable as a scorer or distributor and adds well to Coach Harrington's pressure defense. This weekend, Cole was stellar with 15 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 2 blocked shots. This was an effort worthy of our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Jaxson Graham has developed into a fine point-guard for the 6/7B squad. Having someone who can handle the ball and keep calm breaking the press and starting the offense is an important factor in a team's success. This weekend, in a win vs Harwinton, Graham enjoyed 2 strong outings inclusive of a a game-high 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots in a win vs Harwinton. For this, as well as his stellar play against Wolcott, Jaxson is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
ISAIAH COY
Isaiah has been on Coach Bozzi's radar for his improvement and growth as a player. Coy has been hustling hard on both ends of the floor and leading the offense in his time at the point-guard spot. Bozzi also called out his vocal leadership on the defensive side of the ball when naming Coy our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Ethan Johnson plays a huge role for the 7th Grade Wolverines who added two wins this weekend to run their record to (9 - 6) on the season. Johnson's improved scoring this season is coming at an important time for the team as the teams leading scorer (Ryan Gostomski, 16 PPG) went down with an injury. This has meant that Johnson and his teammates have had to make up for that loss. On the weekend, the versatile forward had a field day with 15 points, 20 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocked shots. It comes as no surprise that Ethan is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
BRAYDEN ANTONELLI
The front court depth of the 7th grade team is it's secret to success and Brayden Antonelli is a key part of that mix. This weekend, "Big A" was spectacular with 5 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. In addition, the tough interior defense he plays doesn't register from a stats perspective but is much appreciated by his team and coaches. Antonelli earns a well-deserved Honorable Mention this Week.
There isn't a player that embraces their role better than Logan LaPia. His team is full of very strong scorers (7 players average 6+ points per game) and Logan has a love of passing and distributing the basketball often passing up his own opportunity to score to enable a teammate. It's a skill he shares with his brother CJ as the siblings are number 1 (CJ - 3.9 ASG) and 2 (Logan 2.8 ASG) on the team in assists per game. On the weekend, LaPia had 3 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists, and 2 steals helping his team run their record to (15 - 2) and first place in their conference. With his selfless play, LaPia earns our Co-Player of the Week.
Mason has grown as a complete player this season and it has been a key factor in the success of his team. The forward can provide ball-handling support, rebounding grit, facilitate for others, defend the post, and be a primary scorer on any given day making him one of the Wolverines most versatile threats. Mejias has taken on the responsibility to play big at times sacrificing scoring to do whatever is needed to win. Coach LaPia has been very pleased with Mason's willingness to play team ball. On the weekend, the forward had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals. For this complete effort Mejias is quite deserving of our Co-Player of the Week recognition.
Jorge played like a giant in 2 games of action this weekend. While beginning to become a more active scorer, it was his rebounding that was even more notable. Olmo had 5 points, 16 rebounds, and 2 steals on the weekend and served as a force on the defensive side of the ball. His movement and athleticism from the center spot has been a highlight for the 8th grade Wolverines this season. For this impactful effort, Jorge is Co-Player of the Week.
