Cadence "KK" Callahan-LaPia is a force for the Lady Wolverines. This weekend was an example of how many ways she can impact the game. The team went 1-1 on the weekend but KK turned in nothing but winning performances. The forward/center had 9 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals, and 1 blocked shot in two games of action. For this strong effort, Callahan-LaPia is our 5G Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
AYLA TEZEL
Ayla has become a very capable rebounder and alters shots when she is in the game. This weekend she was key in a win against Madison and a loss to a very strong Ledyard team. Tezel had 4 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot. For her efforts, Ayla is our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Annie had a break-through weekend and impacted the game in new ways. As a guard, you are often responsible for ball protection and distribution which Kansler does well. This weekend she also had her strongest defensive performance and was a force on the backboards with rebounding highs. All together, Annie grabbed 8 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and added 2 steals in action over the weekend. For her impact performance, Annie is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
LILIANA MICHALSKI & MIA NIEVES
"Lil and Mia" are a tandem for the Wolverines that has been stellar since coming to the program last season. They do so many different things for their team including carrying the scoring load and taking on point guard responsibility against the press. Michalski had 8 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, and 8 steals on the weekend while Nieves added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, and 2 blocked shots. For their continued excellence, Michalski and Nieves are our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Maxwell Matuskey has developed into a fine point guard for the 6B squad. His ability to score and distribute alike has helped his team on their 3 game win-streak. On the defensive side of the ball, he is a high energy defender who creates opportunity for others in the press. In dominating wins over Wolcott and Harwinton, Matuskey scored 15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 assists. For his stellar play, Matuskey is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
EVAN CARBINE
Evan provides the type of height and strength at center that is a major difference maker for his team. This weekend, he utilized both and added scoring support to go along with it. Carbine scored 8 points, hauled in 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 7 blocked shots. For his big-time performance, Evan is our Honorable Mention this week.
Joey Bozzi had a very well-rounded performance this weekend in match-ups with Manchester and Madison. Despite the team losing two competitive games, Bozzi was effective in all facets for his team. The point-forward scored 14 points, pulled down 18 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 blocks, and 1 steal. For his efforts, he is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
FINN GOLLARENY
Finn followed up his Player of the Week performance last week with an Honorable Mention. His consistent hustle and grit was on full display as he scored 11 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, dished 4 assists, blocked 1 shot, and added 1 steal. With this showing, Finn is our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Cole is getting better and more imposing each week. His strength on the interior is complemented by good shooting touch with the mid-range. In one game of action over the weekend, Howlett tallied 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. His team came up short in a rematch with Clinton (they won 51-50 at the buzzer last month) but Cole was very deserving as our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
JUSTIN BEGEJ
Justin provided a spark for the 7th grade squad this week vs. Clinton. Contributing 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals, Begej made his presence felt on both sides of the floor especially rebounding from the guard position. For his strong effort, Justin is our Honorable Mention this week.
JJ Warrick is not only the leading scorer for the 8th grade Wolverines team, he is the most efficient player. His shooting percentages season-to-date are 58% (FG), 51% (3-pt), and 85% (FT) and he has made big shots in big moments. On a 3-game workload this weekend, where the team went (2-1), Warrick scored a total of 45 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, dished 2 assists, and swiped 2 steals in a loss at New Britain and wins over Madison and Wolcott. For his stellar performance, Warrick is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
MASON MEJIAS & CJ CALLAHAN
Mason Mejias has always been a strong scorer for the Wolverines. This season he has been asked to become a bigger inside force and to help carry the rebounding and facilitating role. He has been excellent with both and this weekend was no exception. Mejias was critical for the Wolverines scoring 7 points, grabbing 15 rebounds, handing out 6 assists, and grabbing 2 steals over the weekend. For his selfless play and developing leadership, Mason is our Honorable Mention of the Week.
CJ Callahan had a strong weekend as the point guard scored the 500th point of his Wolverines tenure (program started in 2022) on Friday night. That moment came on a the first score of a 3 game stretch where Callahan tallied 20 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists, and 8 steals. For this well-rounded performance, CJ is our Honorable Mention of the Week.
