Makenna is an energy spark for the 5th Grade Girls team. They have won 4 straight games 2nd place in CTBC.and James has been a huge part of that success. This weekend, Makenna scored 8 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 blocked shot. Coach LaPia had this to say about Makenna: "Makenna has always been a game defender but her development passing and scoring the ball make her team even more formidable. I love her energy and willingness to compete." For her incredible efforts, she is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
JAZZY CRESPO
Jazzy has been working hard on both sides of the ball this season and is quickly becoming a physical, shut-down defender at the guard position. In close wins over Branford and Coginchaug, where every possession mattered, Crespo contributed timely scoring and critical defensive stops. On the weekend, Jazzy had 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. For her efforts, Jazzy Crespo is our Honorable Mention of the Week.
Liliana plays as hard, on every play, as any player in the entire Wolverines program. She contributes to her team in so many different ways. Whether it's playing multiple positions or committing equally to scoring and hard things like rebounding and defense, "Lil" is a gamer. This weekend, she was prolific 22 points, grabbing 18 rebounds, dishing 5 assists, swiping 8 steals, and blocking a shot in 3 games. For her efforts, Liliana is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
CAROLINE MURPHY & ANNIE KANSLER
Caroline is a versatile performer for the 6G team. She plays post and wing positions is a selfless teammate. Her weekend saw her contribute scoring, defense (3 steals), and a notable 9 rebounds. Annie is the small but mighty twin or Caroline. Annie sacrifices herself on the perimeter setting screens, defending relentlessly, and rebounding well from the guard spot. This weekend, in 3 games, Annie had 11 rebounds, 3 steals, and dished 2 assists. This duo earned their Honorable Mention with hard work and team play.
Teague has become a very strong performer for the emerging 6th Grade Team. Coach Harrington had this to say about Uhl's performance this weekend. "Teague was a tour de force on both ends of the floor. He gives us the versatility of a Swiss Army knife." In two games of action for the 3 - 3 Wolverines, the wing scored 21 points, grabbed 11 boards, handed out 2 assists, and added 6 steals. For his efforts, Teague is the Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
EVAN INGRAHAM
Evan has done very solid work leading the offense from the guard position. Whether it's breaking the press or running in transition offense, Ingraham has been adept at the point or the wing. He finished the weekend with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. For his efforts, he is our Honorable Mention.
Coach Bozzi has praised Noah for playing very solid basketball this season for his 6/7 squad. His defense and 3-point shooting has been most notable and he plays with max effort on both sides of the floor. In two games of action, Noah was instrumental in every phase of the game from ball-handling, defense, scoring, and rebounding. For his efforts, Noah is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
MARKUS HOLMAN
Markus, a 6th grader, plays with his older brother Chris which is a great experience for brothers to have. That said, he also is often taking on older, bigger, players in a mix of 7th and 6th grade action. This weekend was notable for Markus in that he gave a spark to his team on both sides of the floor and scored his first basket of the season. For his efforts this week, Markus is our Honorable Mention.
Ethan is a dynamic athlete who plays with a high motor. His work rebounding the basketball has made him the all-time leading, per-game (9.7 rpg) and total (476 rebounds) rebounder in program history. This weekend was no exception as Ethan controlled the backboards and the defensive side of the ball in action against top-tier teams Wolcott and Windsor. For his efforts, Ethan is our Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
BRAYDEN "BIG A" ANTONELLI
Antonelli is a skilled post player who is a willing scorer and passer alike. His court vision from the baseline created easy scoring opportunities for teammates this weekend. His baseline mid-range shot has become one of the most reliable for the 7th Grade Team and he complimented these contributions with 11 rebounds. Coach Howlett had this to say about Brayden. "This was 'Big A's' best all-around weekend as a Wolverine. He played really well for us." For his efforts, Brayden is our Honorable Mention.
Owen is a versatile wing who gives spark to the Wolverines in starting and reserve moments alike. This weekend, Harris started on a hot streak that didn't end. In two games of action, Owen had 17 points (on 8 of 11 shooting), grabbed 9 rebounds, dished 2 assists, tallied 2 steals, and a blocked shot. Owen stood out as the clear choice for Player of the Week.
HONORABLE MENTION:
CONNER WOOLARD
Conner does so many things that don't even show up on the stat sheet but are critical to the success of his team. He is a pace setter for the defense and he drives the action in transition offense for the Wolvs. The point guard decorated the stat sheet with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals for the 5 - 1 Wolverines. For his contributions, Woolard is our Honorable Mention of the week.
