PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - WEEK 1

4th GRADE BOYS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

CAL GOGLIETTINO

4B took on a very strong Guiford team on Friday at their home debut. It was a back and forth battle that saw numerous lead changes. Gogliettino was a dynamic force leading all scorers with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Though the Wolverines fell short 37-34, the team will be one to reckon with in the league. 


HONORABLE MENTION:

CHASE BAIA

Baia gave the Wolverines a needed lift whenever entering the game against Guilford. His 2 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal were key to the success of the team. 

5/6th GRADE BOYS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

LEANDRO SANTOS

Santos scored a team-high 23 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 steals on Sunday against a very strong Wolcott team. He hit 3-pointers, runners, and free-throws in a great show of versatility. 


HONORABLE MENTION: 

AIDEN LAHNIN

Lahnin stood out for his defensive effort and intensity this weekend. Even as the game was lost, you saw Lahnin hustlle and grind on both sides of the floor. His coaches were pleased with his performance.


6th GRADE GIRLS


PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

JAZZY CRESPO

Crespo had a very strong weekend for the 6B Lady Wolverines. On a very strong weekend, Jazzy tallied 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 9 steals in a win over North Branford and a 1 point loss to Colchester. 


HONORABLE MENTION:

MADDIE SMITH

Maddie Smith has been one of the most improved shooters in the program so far this season. The guard shot especially well this weekend in two games of action. Her 8 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and 8 steals seemed to rally her team all weekend. 

7th GRADE GIRLS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

KAITLYN CASSESSE

Cassesse had a breakout weekend in two tough games against Manchester and South Windsor. Kaitlyn's balanced in performance included 10 points, 21 rebounds, and 3 steals. Her emergence on offense is great news for the 7G Wolverines. 


HONORABLE MENTION:

REBECCA GRAVER

Graver gave a lift to her team, with quick pass/shoot decision making, and hustle on defense that helped spark rallies. Her efforts were strong in each game this weekend. 


7th GRADE BOYS

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

SAMIR ZAIM-SASSI

Samir was a force this weeknd and led his team within a buzzer-beater of a 2-0 weekend. That buzzer-beater from HAR-BUR rendered the 7B Wolverines 1-1 because it went in. None-the-less, Zaim-Sassi had it going to the tune of 36 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. 


HONORABLE MENTION:

ALEX RIVERA

Rivera provided a boost to his team with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. His balanced performance was a catalyst to the teams success. 

8th GRADE BOYS BLUE

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

NOAH MASON

Down 3 points to Madison in the waning seconds of the 4th quarter, Noah Mason stole the ball, scored the lay-up, and completed an and-one free throw to tie the game. The Wolverines would go on to win the game as a result. It was one example of the boost he gave his team as Mason had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 steals in the contest.


HONORABLE MENTION:

THOMAS CHESERY & JADEN DIANA

Chesery has been another of the programs most improved shooters. Diana has been a welcomed newcomer to the team adding scoring and solid guard play. Chesery had 7 points, 3 assists, 1 steal while Diana added 9 points and 1 rebound. 


8th GRADE BOYS GOLD

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

JACK CORSO

Corso  plays the game with a Jason Williams flair and Allen Iverson edge and he was the pace setter for his team all weekend. With 40 points, 16 rebounds, 9 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocked shots, Jack narrowly missed a (2-game) triple-double which serves as evidence of his all-around superb play. 


HONORABLE MENTION:

CRISTIANO OLIVEIRA

Oliveira has emerged on the 8B squad as a defensive enforcer. The rim protection he provided made teams think twice about bringing the ball inside. On the weekend, Cristiano contributed 8 points, 17 rebounds, 2 steals, and 6 blocked shots.
